A basic script to add an option to translate Twitch chat messages in Realtime.

This is just a pet-project of mine since other chat translators I found were either paid subscription models, did not have suitable customization, or translated and overwrote every single message, regardless of the language. So i made my own.

Current Features:

Easy access settings

Support for 66 Languages

Color customization for translated messages

Only translates messages if the detected language is different to the selected language

Easy on/off toggle

light & dark mode support

Blacklist filter for words/emotes

Choose to show/hide 3rd-party emotes from final translation (bttv, ffz, 7tv)

Works in Pop-out chat windows

NEW: Various experimental sensitivity toggles

Planned works

Currently does not appear to work on the twitch dashboard. I may look into this soon™.

Potentially going to look at translating user messages before sending to the chatrooms.

Translations may not be perfect and are at the whims of the Google translate API. Use in very fast chatrooms is untested and may result in being rate-limited

Only works on live channels, Does not support translations on VoDs.

Message history when joining a channel may not translate properly & this will likely not be changed

It is possible some bugs are present since the code is a mess. Unless they become a significant issue, they are unlikely to be resolved. If it works, don't fix it

Important note: Developer mode must be enabled for Tampermonkey or equivalent, in order to allow for proper injection to the webpage. This needs to be done via your browser extensions.

This code will use @grant GM_set/getValue for saving user settings
